Here is the final instalment in this week of collection releases; the Bluebirds Dress. I have been saving this piece until last because I felt that this was a bit of a stunner of a dress, and some truly amazing pictures! Didn't Hannah do an incredible job? We were so lucky that night with the beautiful sunset, and Hannah captured both it and the dress just perfectly.
This dress looks just a little bit fancy with it's open back and large bows, but it's actually really simple to wear, as it is a wrap around dress! The only fastenings are the two bows- one at the upper back (which I rather like the look of) and one at the waist. The ties at the waist are actually long enough to wrap right around before fastening at the back, which makes a nice little belt effect. I chose to line the bodice in a red cotton which peeks out at the back on the underside of the bows. I did this to draw out the red in the poppies on the print, but I think it also helps to make the dress feel that little bit more special. I also used red bias tape to hem the skirt and bell sleeves, so it's a nice little detail that is visible only to the wearer (although you can get a little peek of it in that amazing running shot above).
I have to say, my inspiration in designing this was purely to follow my inclination to make something really special and fun. I wanted to make something open-backed and let myself have fun with little details like lining and such, so I just went for it! I think in the end though it actually fits really well with the rest of the collection, like what the fictional Frances Baker girl who has been in all these dresses so far might wear at the end of the day to a party perhaps. Or something like that ;)
I hope you enjoyed this week of dress releases! Be sure to check back later, as I will be having a little giveaway to celebrate the launch of the new collection. For now, you can find the Bluebirds Dress in the shop!

ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks Liz! All the organic cotton prints are from Cloud 9 fabrics. I finally found a wholesaler that sells them in Australia! It was so exciting :)
DeleteWow this is definitely a show stopper Josie ! You have done a very beautiful summer collection.
ReplyDeleteHaving to pick a favorite though it would be either the Hannah dress or the flora dress !
And the pictures... and the landscape ! Makes me want to jump on a plane to Australia !
